Barack Obama has failed to defeat conservatism in America

This week’s striking Gallup poll on political ideology is further confirmation that the United States is in essence a conservative nation, which has ironically become even more conservative under Barack Obama. According to Gallup, 40 percent of Americans describe their political views as conservative, 36 percent as moderate and 20 percent as liberal. This is the first time conservatives have outnumbered moderates in America since 2004.

Remember, kids, this is Gallup, not Rasmussen so the rightward tendency in questioning that everyone bitches about isn’t in play here.

Perhaps Newt Gingrich and the rest of the “pitch a big tent and stroke ourselves in the wilderness” Republicans should pay attention to this news too.

These are staggering figures when you consider that the Left currently dominates the Executive Branch of the US Government, both Houses of the United States Congress, the federal bureaucracy, huge swathes of local government in many big cities, academia, the public school system, and most of the establishment broadcast and print media in America.

Most of those enlightened, sophisticated entities are waging constant war on conservatism yet we rubes manage to prevail.

The disconnect between regular Americans and what Rasmussen calls “the Political Class” is indicative of just how lethargic and/or apathetic the American electorate can be for long periods of time. The out of touch politicians were, of course, put into power by the same people who can’t stand them. It’s a plague that current office holders can’t count on to afflict the populace forever. The American public has a habit of rediscovering its voting power every once in a while.

The Gallup survey also reveals a distinctly rightward shift in public attitudes since the Obama administration took office, with a growing backlash against the US government’s support for big government solutions to the country’s economic woes, as well as a marked rise in public support for socially conservative views.

This shift isn’t that surprising either. The Americans who do vote regularly get a little itchy every few elections and shake things up for the mere sake of shaking things up. It’s usually when the electorate is restless after a long run for the Right that it starts to fall for the emotional, heart-tugging sales pitch from the Left.

Once the liberals win and begin the nanny government, we-know-better-than-you garbage, all but the hard core ideologues scream a collective “Holy Crap!” and decide that the big people should be in charge again. Thanks to President Obama’s narcissistic overreaching with his psychotic-Left agenda, this is happening at an accelerated pace compared to the past.

Last November, liberal commentators wrote off conservatism in America as dead and buried. As the latest Gallup poll shows they were spectacularly wrong.

As they always are.
