Enough of this garbage, already.
After two spectacularly dismal national elections, a large part of the old-guard in the GOP remains in “Einstein’s Definition Of Insanity” mode and is determined to throw the party on the Whig pile.
This past week and a half has played out in a most interesting fashion both locally and nationally for me. After spending a weekend butting heads with the old-school money people at Western CPAC, I had a keener sense of just how clueless they are and how desperately their influence needs to be diminished, if not obliterated.(Hyperbole? You hang out with them and tell me.) The way the mess has since been playing out in NY-23 seems to be the political gods’ way of saying, “You weren’t overreacting last weekend, Stephen.”
There has been much speculation as to just what Newt Gingrich was thinking when he endorsed Dede ACORN. I wasn’t surprised at all. Once you’ve shared a couch with the Botox Hag there are any number of ideological illnesses that might infect you. Chronic illnesses.
Newt, the NRCC, the RNC and the NRSC are all confused anachronisms that find themselves involved in a game with ever-shifting rules. Unfortunately, most of the rules are being delivered online and they’re all still sitting by their fax machines waiting for updates (I couldn’t resist one last dig).
For as long as any of the old guard can remember, the fund raising and the message was completely controlled by them. In their minds this remains an immutable law of nature rather than a political reality subject to change. While there is still a lot of money flowing from Mt. Clueless, they no longer have a hammer lock on the fund raising channels.
And they have no grip at all on message.
Simple, historical fact shows that the Republican Party is more successful when it sticks to conservative principles and runs conservative candidates (Like Marco Rubio). The “Big Tent” that Gingrich speaks of has done nothing more than provide a gathering place for us to lick our wounds after getting clocked in an election filled with candidates from the tent.
It’s patently insane to say that the only way for the GOP to win elections is to become more like the Democrats. You know who else has been saying that for several years?
The Democrats.
Does any remotely awake Republican think that the Democrats would be publicly advocating what they believe to be a winning formula for the opposition?
As has been stated many times recently, if you want a big government, spend-it-all candidate why not just vote for a Democrat who has all those years of practice under his or her belt?
The recent successes on the Right haven’t come from anyone in the GOP hierarchy, they’ve all been driven from the ground up. Now the money is beginning to flow from the ground up. It’s a seismic shift in the GOP that will eventually see conservatives take over the party apparatus and hand out the cash to worthy candidates, not Democrats in elephant’s clothing.
And the squishies can all go fax off and leave us alone.
