Because it’s FUN to pretend!

“Nothing that has come out in the public as a result of the recent email hackings has cast doubt on the basic scientific message on climate change and that message is quite clear — that climate change is happening much, much faster than we realized and we human beings are the primary cause,”

Having just endured a rare forty degree West L.A. night with a broken heater, my AGW anxiety isn’t really ratcheting up today.

The climate commies are trying to have it both ways. They’ve been attempting to make their case for years on the basis that they have “SCIENCE!” on their side. This argument frames things in such a way that those of us who have serious doubts about AGW are portrayed as unsophisticated rubes because we don’t believe the science.

Now, in the face of hard evidence that the scientists were behaving more like sci-fi writers, the AGW proponents are engaging in a game of wholesale make-believe. When the scientists weren’t ignoring data (the Michael Mann way), they were whisking it under the rug to get it away from the prying eyes of those uncooth skeptics. All of this was being done to fit square peg data into a theoretical round hole. In short, the intellectually rigorous consensus mongers were just makin’ stuff up.

Of course, that’s what they’ve been doing for years. They’ve just had the help of the press, politicians and Big Green businesspeople (Al Gore, anyone?) keeping the curtain drawn around them. Now, some nasty little Toto has exposed them and their doing damage control that’s almost exactly according to the Wizard of Oz’s book: keep selling the illusion even if the truth is now in plain sight.

What’s most disturbing is that they might get away with this. The press is dutifully repeating the “pay no attention” mantra and framing the debate by never actually addressing the content of the emails.

The Secretary General is merely doing his job. Unfortunately, that job is finding new and more creative ways to extort money from countries who always seem to find a way to make it and give to those who never seem to be able to do the same thing.

We are having some convergence (of) opinions among the leading countries, both developing and developed, that we will agree on $10 billion short-term fast-track facilities for developing countries over three years until 2012,

Never mind that most of these countries have been “developing” seemingly forever now.

These developing countries were hoping to simply be able to show up in Copenhagen, scream “Melting ice caps!” and have the United States crack open the check book. Now they’ve got their panties in a wad over a new proposal that would allow the countries with cars to emit more CO2 than those with oxen. Worse yet, this proposal doesn’t let the UN be the chief inmate running the Climate Change Asylum.

The leaders who are attending this sci-fi/fantasy convention know that they have to come away with something concrete right now or some credence will be lent to those of us who found the East Anglia CRU shell game to be problematic. As such, they’re willing to throw some folks under the bus (President Obama always brings an extra on Air Force One for emergencies just like this) in order to save a little face.

Why do they have the luxury of doing this?

Because it has never, ever been about a real threat to the planet. If it was, there wouldn’t be a kajillion private planes parked outside this summit. It’s about power, money and a new world order.

The science is settled on that one.

UPDATE: Hot Air has more analysis on the back room, no-little-guys, deal.

I have carefully studied the “science”, both skeptic and supportive. I have found no credible evidence that there is anthropogenic warming, although I have found contrary evidence. While I am still open to the issue, and have always supported prudence in GHG emission, we are nowhere near any cataclysmic event, and taking steps as though we are is worse than irresponsible.
