Camp Buehring

Camp Buehring

This post isn’t going to be nearly long enough for all that went on today. I’m a little under the weather (OK-a lot) and I’d like to grab a few hours of sleep before we fly to scenic Baghdad in the morning.

We headed to Camp Buehring early in the afternoon. We saw a lot of dirt and a lot of camels on the way there. Mark’s gas is better so we didn’t offend any of the camels, thanks for asking.

We began with a Commander’s Call, meeting Lt. Col. Alan Naugher and Capt. Steve Moore, who filled us in on what they do there and presented us with some freakin’ awesome plaques.

We then continued on to get a very thorough tour of the camp from Capt. Moore and Staff Sgt. Robert Price. These two entertained us all day long before giving us a chance to return the favor.

The real fun began when they stuck us in an MRAP simulator and let us see what it would be like if the vehicle rolled over.

After almost 24 hours in Kuwait I FINALLY got to shoot something. OK, we were shooting at video targets on a simulated range but, hey, I hit a terrorist in the groin with an M16 and got to play with the .50 cal gun too. Again, I’d go into greater detail about all of this but I want to have a voice for tomorrow’s show (I barely had one left at the end of tonight’s).

Yes, the show was fun too but I’m out of gas. I can barely speak and I’ve got at least 8 more shows to do so we’ll have to wait until I get to Iraq for a stab at eloquence and insight. There are a couple of cameras’ worth of pics I haven’t looked at yet too, as well as some video. A shot of NyQuil awaits, however.

I will leave you with this: everyone we’ve met so far has been fantastic. Even the guy at the Starbucks.
