wordpress plugins and themes

During a speech I gave last week for AFP Florida after the Orlando debate, I noted the increasingly desperate tone of the e-mails I’ve been receiving from Organizing For America. I said that they all seem to be written by a lover who knew it was about to be dumped and was clinging to my ankles as I was walking out the door. So, what should arrive in my inbox today but an e-mail from Michelle Obama that continues this theme. What’s different here is that they’re now asking for only three dollars as opposed to the five that they used to. I thought the brilliance of the Obama 2008 campaign with they weren’t asking for 50 or $100 all the time, they usually just asked for five. A campaign’s donor rolls increase significantly when you aren’t hitting them up for an amount that’s a week’s grocery money for many.

Now it seems that five is a little too much for the base that’s flying out the door, however. So it’s three dollars now. Soon it will be two. Then one. I fully expect to soon receive an OFA email titled “What’s under your couch cushions?”

Stephen –

Not everyone knows how to prepare for a dinner like this. As someone who’s eaten countless meals with my husband, I want to tell you the one thing to do if you’re selected to join him…

Just relax. Barack wants this dinner to be fun, and he really loves getting to know supporters like you.

I hope you’ll take him up on it before Friday’s deadline.

Will you donate just $3 today and be entered to have dinner with Barack?

These dinners mean a lot to Barack. They’re a chance for him to talk with a few of the people who are driving the campaign — and a chance for him to say thank you.

So come prepared to tell your story, and say whatever’s on your mind.

Don’t miss the opportunity to be there. Donate $3 or more today, before the September 30th deadline:

Thanks,

Anyone feeling smug about the Greek crisis should take a quick dekko at our own statistics.
Spending in April and May was 4.1 per cent higher than during the equivalent period in 2010. Government borrowing was £27.4 billion, up from £25.9 billion the previous year. This additional debt comes despite a series of tax rises: VAT, fuel duty, income tax and National Insurance have all gone up.

I have no idea what a “dekko” is (I think I had one surgically removed from my left buttocks when I was in college) but the rest of this is pretty clear to anyone not drunk on the progressive sauce.

Spending more. Borrowing more. Taxing more. It’s like an economic Molotov cocktail. Yet American progressives keep clinging to the dream that, somehow, it will all be SO DIFFERENT when we do it here. Oddly, the progressives’ belief that we can take the same disastrous steps as collapsing european economies yet emerge unscathed remains their one nod to American exceptionalism.

This is another example of what happens when spending is not seriously addressed. On this side of the pond, those that tackle it are usually called some kind of murderer by Democrats in Congress. That helps. Waiting until it’s too late to make some cuts during a crisis isn’t really the answer if the spending problem is left unchecked.

In other words, despite everything we keep reading about “the cuts”, spending and borrowing are both higher now than they were under Gordon Brown. Since the Coalition took office, our national debt has increased from 53 to 61 per cent of GDP.

OMG! A whopping 53-61 percent of GDP?!?!?

Good times.

wordpress plugins and themes

Here’s your dose of “New Tone” for the week.

At a rally in Palm Springs, CA last week, progressive loons from Big Labor, Common Cause and Code Pink got together to give psych majors everywhere some live study material. The gentle, non-racist lefties demonstrated their commitment for a new tone by calling for the lynching of Justice Clarence Thomas, complete with the comment that he should be sent “back to the fields”.

Curiously, our friends in the MSM haven’t been frothing all over this actual video evidence of racism at a progressive rally. It isn’t, after all, a contributor to the narrative that all of this kind of stuff happens at Tea Party rallies. So remember, John Lewis says somebody from a Tea Party group yelled a racial epithet at him and it gets months of news coverage despite no video evidence. Yet when a progressive cousin-breeder lets his true nature show at a lefty rally we get a collective yawn from the media brain trust.

Hope. Change. B.S.

Here’s somewhat of a palate cleanser from the same rally. Andrew Breitbart decided to throw on some rollerblades and check out the crowd. He’s since convinced me that I need to get out to more of these things with a camera just to mess with their heads. For America, people, For America. (h/t to Pat Dollard for the vid)

wordpress plugins and themes

“Really, it’s not him, it’s you.”

Journolist may be gone but the brain-dead mantra generating machine continues its uncritical support of The Lightbringer.

Not only do six out of 10 voters “lack faith in the president to make the right decisions for the country,” according to a Post-ABC News poll, but Barack Obama does not even get credit for the right decisions he’s made. The bank bailout averted a financial crackup and the stimulus package pulled the economy back from the abyss. Along with reform of the financial industry and health care, these are considerable achievements. Only the voters disagree.

Stupid voters. Who let them in?

The people who mock religious Americans as unenlightened continue their blind faith in a man and policies that have no real historical underpinnings to justify the wishful thinking. In the minds of the chattering class that’s so desperate for President Obama to be the transcendent figure they’ve been telling us he is, this is all going to work out simply because it has to. And anyone who criticizes what’s actually happening is evil.

Until these measures prove popular, they can be mischaracterized by Republicans and other evil-doers.

Cohen, of course, is merely fulfilling his parrot duties. President Obama introduced the “you just don’t get it” meme when he said the reason so many opposed the health care overhaul was simply because he didn’t explain it well.

Parrots aren’t renowned for their thoughtful contributions to history, by the way.

It is both pathetic and amusing to watch an entire segment of American society behave in a purely emotional, anti-intellectual fashion all the while dismissing those who disagree with them as stupid.

Cohen attempts a somewhat critical examination of Obama’s popularity problem then undoes it all by wrapping it up with a vacuous, Oprah-esque conclusion.

Americans know Obama is smart. But we still don’t know him. Before Americans can give him credit for what he’s done, they have to know who he is. We’re waiting.

No, Mr. Cohen, Americans don’t need a deeper knowledge of the innermost workings of President Obama. That’s what those of you experiencing a disturbing and unrequited love affair with him need.

Americans need jobs. Americans need elected officials who listen to us.

And you will find out very soon that the voters do indeed get it.

Those who can’t, schedule so many speeches their voices begin to sound like so much background noise.

With polls showing he’s on the losing end of the public opinion tide in favor of Arizona’s new illegal immigrant law, President Obama has decided to construct a wordy barrier of speeches along the insecure border issue with Mexico.

The latest speech comes Thursday morning, when the Democrat goes to American University in Washington to repeat his view that securing and sealing the nation’s southern frontier against the flow of illegal immigrants, drugs, traffickers, criminals and terrorists is only a part of the solution to what he describes as “our broken immigration system.”

How could he know that securing and sealing the border is only part of the solution if it hasn’t been tried yet? Anyone from Team Lightbringer able to answer that? I’ll wait…

OK, long enough.

The faster this train rushes down the mountain without brakes, speeding inexorably towards an end we all know won’t be pretty, the more I’m convinced that this president couldn’t think his way out of an open bathroom.

President Obama’s only real solution to anything seems to be the sound of his own voice. In lieu of mature policy, speeches, town halls and summits are staged for cameras like so many bad community theater productions of “Hair”.

How did the president prepare for this speech? By having a secret meeting behind closed doors with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

Does anybody want to spitball the over/under on how many times securing the border was seriously mentioned during that little circle-jerk?

Obama fans still full of the Kool-Aid constantly praise his measured, “professorial” ways. I think they’re simply getting their euphemism on to avoid saying he’s boring. “Professorial” implies depth and this president doesn’t have much. His reactions range from childlike petulance to surface distractions that are meant to convey that he’s hard at work on whatever it is he’s actually supposed to be doing.

Those of us who have never been fans of this president have found his m.o. tedious and fruitless from the beginning. Now, as the oil still gushes, many who were all-in for him are growing weary of the grandstanding.

Stay weary, my friends.

wordpress plugins and themes

The drool-soaked lips seem to be losing their pucker.

President Obama’s quixotic “This is a huge mess to so-LET’S BUILD A WINDMILL!” speech is receiving all of the critical acclaim of a “Billy Ray & Miley Sing Wagner” special.

The BBC reports of Barack Obama’s speech last night are about as derisive as it would be possible to be about someone you were describing only a few months ago as the incarnation of Hope and Optimism. Yes indeed, the romance is over. The British media have decided that it was all a cruel deception: Obama is just one more ranting populist president who will do anything to divert attention from his own failure to get a grip.

Et tu, euro-fawners?

As stunning as it is that those who have had the luxury of loving Obama from a distance (the easiest way) are hurtling head-first off the bandwagon, MSNBC’s criticism must have all the heads in Lightbringer Land spinning today.

Until now, the only remotely negative comments uttered from anyone at MSNBC regarding the president have had to do with the fact that he wasn’t moving far enough left on a variety of issues. And most of those have been issued with a perfunctory dig at George W. Bush.

Last night’s thoroughly pedestrian and belated effort from the Oval Office prompted the cacophonous apologists at MSNBC to question Obama’s leadership. In fact, it was the first time in Obamic history that Chris Matthews got through a post-speech assessment with dry pants.

Olbermann: “It was a great speech if you were on another planet for the last 57 days.”

Matthews compared Obama to Carter.

Olbermann: “Nothing specific at all was said.”

Matthews: “No direction.”

Howard Fineman: “He wasn’t specific enough.”

Olbermann: “I don’t think he aimed low, I don’t think he aimed at all. It’s startling.”

Howard Fineman: Obama should be acting like a “commander-in-chief.”

Matthews: Ludicrous that he keeps saying [Secretary of Energy] Chu has a Nobel prize. “I’ll barf if he does it one more time.”

Matthews: “A lot of meritocracy, a lot of blue ribbon talk.”

Matthews: “I don’t sense executive command.”

(There are no juicy Rachel Maddow quotes because she was busy doing a glowing story about Kim Jong-il and the North Korean soccer team. WhatEVS, comrade!)

The most surreal moment of the night may have been hearing Chris Matthews questioning where the president gets the authority to force BP to set up an escrow account.

Yeah, he’s overreaching too much for them now.

No one really expects this lucidity to take hold at MSNBC. The most likely outcome is that they’ll all co-host a special called, “Why George W. Bush Made Us Behave Like Racist Teabaggers One Night”.

President Spock’s behavior is illogical.

Once more, he has willfully and inexplicably resisted fulfilling a signal part of his job: being a prism in moments of fear and pride, reflecting what Americans feel so they know he gets it.

“This president needs to tell BP, ’I’m your daddy,’ “ scolded James Carville, a New Orleans resident, as he called Barack Obama’s response to Louisiana’s new watery heartbreak “lackadaisical.”

Of course, our gal Mo protects her continued employment by contorting her logic and working some good old fashioned “Blame Bush!” into the piece.

Oblivious to warnings about Osama hitting the U.S. and Katrina hitting New Orleans, W. often seemed more absorbed in workouts than work. Obama, by contrast, does his homework; he conveys a rare and impressive grasp of difficult subjects when he at last deigns to talk to the news media and reassure those whose lives are overturned by disaster.

Get it? “Obama isn’t very good at this job but he’s still really, really smart! I swear!”

Since we’re talking about GWB now, Dowd fails to mention that he was utterly brilliant at “fulfilling a signal part of his job: being a prism in moments of fear and pride, reflecting what Americans feel so they know he gets it.” His performance after 9/11 gave him more cred in that department than Obama can ever dream of.

The Bush Bashing template may not be enough to offset Ms. Dowd’s analysis of how the Smartest Guy In The Room is handling Oil Spill Katrina.

For five weeks, it looked as though Obama considered the gushing that became the worst oil spill in U.S. history a distraction, like a fire alarm going off in the middle of a law seminar he was teaching. He’ll deal with it, but he’s annoyed because it’s not on his syllabus.

Even if Obama doesn’t watch “Treme” on HBO, it’s strange that he would not have a more spontaneous emotional response to another horrendous hit for Louisiana, with residents and lawmakers crying on the news and dead pelicans washing up on shore. But then, he didn’t make his first-ever visit to New Orleans until nearly a year after Katrina hit. “I never had occasion to be here,” he told The Times’s Jeff Zeleny, then at The Chicago Tribune.

Just as President Clinton once protested to reporters that he was still “relevant,” President Obama had to protest to reporters last week that he has feelings.

He seemed to tune out a bit after the exhausting battle over health care, with the air of someone who says to himself: “Oh, man, that was a heavy lift. I’m taking a break.”

He’s spending the holiday weekend in Chicago when he should be commemorating Memorial Day here with the families of troops killed in battle and with veterans at Arlington Cemetery.

This Times Opinion piece would qualify as the closest thing to lucidity that page has seen in decades had Dowd not thrown in the terminally weak and unimaginative Bush stuff.

Yes, the Kool-Aid is strong but its effects seem to be wearing off a bit. The egocentric world view that drives President Obama will eventually make itself known to his fawning devotees. And yes, they’ll temper it with “Blame Bush!” as long as they can.

But that excuse has a shelf-life too.
